Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, working in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are sold at no profit and our families pay no interest. As our partner families pay off their mortgages, that money becomes available to build more houses for more deserving families.

Eleanor Archibald and her family are building a home in Oneonta

Ellie Face

Jon and Bruce are in charge and

we are impressed with their energy and thoroughness.

Jon&Bruce

Jon Edgington has done a magnificent job supervising volunteers to prepare the foundation for the cement pour. One of the most difficult and time-consuming jobs is making sure the area is dug down far enough and all the parts of the framing for the concrete foundation are level. Pictures below show some of that preparation.

Measuring

Measuring - where will we dig?

For this first few weeks, the main workers have been Alton VanCleef (controlling his awesome machinery). He dug the foundation area,  moved a truck, and came back to help the Job Corps kids level the ground for the basement cement pour. The other important actors in this story so far have been the energetic and hard-working Job Corps kids. They have worked diligently setting the metal frames on the foundation, placing the rebar inside the molds so it will strengthen the concrete walls, working with the cement to fill the walls, then taking all those metal mold pieces back off to expose the basement walls.

Kids from the Oneonta Job Corps are helping prepare the foundation for our next home. Left to right are: Isain, Damen, Tianna, Larry, Johnny, Charletta, Zoikee, Keesean, Rajan, Phil and Nate (Sorry if I got anyone wrong! email us and we'll fix it - email:  clerk@touchstone-com.com) This group came Wednesday morning.

And some of the same - some new - came to help us in the afternoon. Listed, not necessarily in correct order are: Qualima, Storm, Zoikee, Phil, Johnny, Lester, Isaiah, Mac, Larry, Tianna and Charletta.
THANKS Guys - we really appreciate all the Job Corps does to help us.
