Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, working in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses are sold at no profit and our families pay no interest. As our partner families pay off their mortgages, that money becomes available to build more houses for more deserving families.

CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE REPORT  • DIRECTIONS TO OUR SITES

Construction Committee Update:

Greetings:

This weekly update is intended to inform everyone of the construction progress made at our current building site. Volunteer work this year is at our rehab building site on Parish Avenue in Oneonta. Directions to the site are given below.

The scheduled work hours for volunteers are 8:30AM to 4:00PM on Thursdays and Saturdays. Lunch will normally be provided on Saturdays only, so bring a brown bag on Thursdays.

Volunteers must personally sign-in at the work site each day in order to be covered by our insurance. If you plan to volunteer for work, please sign up with the "Volunteer Now!" link (left column) here so that we know in advance how many volunteers to expect. If you sign up and then can't make it, please cancel using our Volunteer Now link.

This will be the last weekly email until construction starts on our next house in the Spring!

January 1, 2012

On Tuesday and Wednesday this past week, the partner family and regular volunteers worked to essentially finish construction of the Parish Avenue home.

10 Parish Avenue (Oneonta)

Last Week:

The kitchen countertops (donated by F&M Concrete Castings) were installed, followed by the stove, kitchen sink, and dishwasher. These, along with the washer and dryer, were tested.

A broken window in the out building (shed) was fixed, and paving blocks in this building were completed. A final load of construction debris went to the transfer station, and the trailers were loaded for transportation to the Pole Barn.

The partner family moved in.

Directions to 10 Parish Avenue (Oneonta)
From the center of Oneonta, take Main Street toward I-88. After passing the Police station and going over the railroad bridge turn right onto River Street. Continue approximately 8 blocks to Parish Street (one block beyond the West Broadway traffic light). Turn right onto Parish Street. 10 Parish Street is on the right, four houses from the end of the street.

Directions to the Pole Barn (Hartwick)
From Oneonta, take Route 205 north to the village of Hartwick (about 15 miles north of Oneonta). Turn left (West) at the 4 corners onto County Route 11.
Follow this about a half mile, to where the road takes a bend to the left and Weeks Road goes sharply to the right. At that bend, directly ahead of you is a large white house, driveway on the left, and pole barn in the back. Take the driveway up to the pole barn.

Directions to the HFHOC office on Dietz Street (Oneonta)
In Oneonta, take Dietz Street North from Main Street and turn right into the large municipal parking lot between Dietz Street and Ford Avenue. Park at the North end of the lot close to the office complex at 50 Dietz Street. The HFHOC office is located in Suite M.
